Residents Raise Concerns and Celebrate Progress

Resident Sherry Britton thanked the board for hitting the ground running but raised two concerns: an uptick in attempted home break-ins and litter around a new liquor store on Sibley and Wabash. She urged the board to address safety and cleanliness.

Major Housing and Retail Project Proposed

Developer Evan Seiden introduced plans for a mixed-income housing and retail development at 14700 Harvard Street. Originally zoned industrial (M1), the 13-acre site has sat idle since 2022. With the board’s support, Seiden hopes to rezone the site to build:

  • Mixed-income apartments and townhomes
  • Retail stores for everyday needs (childcare, dry cleaning, food)
  • A playground, pool, and daycare
  • Self-storage and ownership opportunities
  • Dedicated housing options for veterans and seniors

Seiden emphasized the project’s potential to bring new investment and long-term community value to Dolton. The board gave verbal support and asked the developers to submit a formal resolution for review.

New Appointments to Village Commissions

Several new appointments were approved and sworn in during the meeting:

  • Police & Fire Commission: Ken Gray, Lester Long, Mark Wolf, and Mary Evans
  • Planning & Zoning Committee: Demetri Hardy, former Mayor Riley Rogers, and Sandra Wells
  • Co-Chaplains: Minister Deborah White and Pastor William Fleshman

Trustees praised the importance of active community involvement and re-establishing commissions that have long been inactive.

The board shared a variety of upcoming initiatives:

  • Community Game Night: May 23 at 14141 Martin Luther King Drive
  • Envision Unlimited Resource Hub Presentation: May 29, 6 p.m.
  • Expungement Summit: June 28, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. at Village Hall
  • Community Garden Build: June 14 at Royal Estates
  • Taste of Solar Event: August 9, featuring electric vehicle conversions

  • Approved honorary street designation: “Pope Leo XIV Place”
  • Finalized committee leadership for Police & Fire, and Human Relations & Ethics

Cook County Shows Support

Al Kendall, Special Assistant to Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, affirmed the County’s support for Dolton’s new leadership. He also mentioned upcoming homeowner relief funds and a free microchip program for pets launching June 7.

Mayor’s Report: Compliance and Community Pride

Mayor Jason House stressed the importance of compliance moving forward, including proper vehicle parking and lawn maintenance. “The era of chaos is over,” he said, “and we’re entering a new season of accountability and community pride.”

He ended with a rallying message: Dolton United.

The meeting adjourned at 7:32 p.m.
